He’s handsome, reliable, and punctual—the perfect gentleman when you want him to be. But this dream man is Death’s best agent—and now he’s got more than his soul to lose…
One act of mercy before dying was all it took to turn soldier David Anderson into a reaper—an immortal who guides souls-of-untimely-death into the afterlife. But the closer he gets to atoning for his mortal sin and finally escaping merciless Fate, the more he feels his own humanity slipping away for good. Until he encounters Sarah Griffith. This skeptical scientist can’t be influenced by his powers—even though she has an unsuspected talent for sensing the dead. And her honesty and irreverent sense of humor reignite his reason for living—and a passion he can’t afford to feel. Now Fate has summoned David to make a devastating last harvest. And he’ll break every hellishly-strict netherworld rule to save Sarah...and gamble on a choice even an immortal can’t win.
This one definitely fits with Top Off Tuesday, too! It's a double-shot. Though I'm not sure where the man's nipples are. They seem to have been chopped off. Ow. At least he has his abs to keep him warm. And that scythe (though that could be dangerous. Roll over at the wrong time and...snip, snip!).
While this story felt quite familiar, it was a good kind of familiar, like a cozy blanket and a sweet cup of tea. David (that's the studly one on the cover) is a reaper who's job is to guide souls into the afterlife. He's got himself a trainee who annoys the crap out of him and he's working his way towards redeeming his soul.
But along comes Sarah and she's worth risking his soul for.
Angsty characters, love-lorn looks, and risking everything for love may not always add up to the fastest-paced story or the strongest romance in the world but as long as there's a happily-ever-after that actually makes me happy, I'm all good. And this book delivers a nice ending.

Hee hee. I like your description of his chest. I could spend a lot of time looking at abs like those. The pecs and muscles not so much. Body building is mostly a turn off for me. But it's hard to go wrong with good abs. :-)
ReplyDeleteSo hard...to go wrong with good abs.
DeleteYou know--I would follow the reaper anywhere if he looked like that. There would not be a fight from me. I would be like take me now (oh you have to take my dog too, you are a dog guy right? you better be or it doesn't matter how fantastic your abs are). So I might argue with the reaper a bit LOL
ReplyDeleteYeah, he'd darned well better take the dog, too. No dogs, no siree. Well, maybe once.
DeleteMary, I love you post and cover.
ReplyDeleteLOL--thanks!
DeleteThat's what the guy who's going to guide me into the afterlife looks like? Brilliant:) I think he needs a bigger scythe though, his seems a little...unimpressive. It's not at all proportional to the size of his muscle-y body! Maybe we all need to do a check of his other, ahem, equipment to make sure it's all up to snuff.
ReplyDeleteOoh, saucy, Jenny! It's true, though. The equipment better...stack up. Size matters, especially when you're flashing a scythe like that.
DeleteI don't think I have one most anticipated book, but I am excited about Altered and Splintered.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you finally joined us, Mary!! And a good selection, too. I approve. We should do this more often. ;)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. I'm so in!
Deleteall this nipple talk... makes me wonder if it is time to bust out the wine!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot!
Always time for wine, especially when accompanied by nipples.
DeleteGreat post, Mary! and I see a hint of a nipple on his left pectoral :D
ReplyDeleteJust a hint though, so maybe he has abnormally small nipples. :P
Anyway, love the cover and I'm glad the story was nice.
I'm going with the abnormally small nippes... poor man. At least he has his scythe on his side.
DeleteI have seen a few reviews of this. I don't care for the cover so I like your description. He just looks disproportionate. I don't think this one I will read but I'm glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about reading this one. Great pick for ToT!
