Waiting on...THE RULES by Stacey Kade

So here's one that came across my radar and most definitely sparked my interest. Screwing around with genetics, test-tube babies with alien DNA...yes, please. Plus, it's a new series by Stacey Kade, author of the fabulous GHOST AND THE GOTH series.

I like everything about the cover except the girl's expression. She looks a little smirky to me (maybe it's working daily with high school students that makes me think that...). But the DNA coding, her different-colored eyes and the broken-up title font all add up to awesomely freaky possibilities.

YA Science Fiction
416 pages, hardcover
Expected publication: April 23, 2013
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion

1. Never trust anyone.
2. Remember they are always searching.
3. Don’t get involved.
4. Keep your head down.
5. Don’t fall in love.

Five simple rules. Ariane Tucker has followed them since the night she escaped from the genetics lab where she was created, the result of combining human and extraterrestrial DNA. Ariane’s survival—and that of her adoptive father—depends on her ability to blend in among the full-blooded humans in a small Wisconsin town, to hide in plain sight at her high school from those who seek to recover their lost (and expensive) “project.”

But when a cruel prank at school goes awry, it puts her in the path of Zane Bradshaw, the police chief’s son and someone who sees too much. Someone who really sees her. After years of trying to be invisible, Ariane finds the attention frightening—and utterly intoxicating. Suddenly, nothing is simple anymore, especially not the rules…

Waiting on is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

  2. I am so fascinated by genetics and thrilled to see it being used in YA. I also love that the title for the series is Project Paper Doll-it's just a nifty little name.

  4. Ooooo this does sound good Mary! I'm with you on her expression, it makes me a touch suspicious of her, but the rest of the cover is gorgeous and the synopsis makes me wish it was April already. There are so many good books coming out next year. Can't wait:)

  6. I will read anything Stacey Kade writes so I'm super excited about The Rules! But I agree about the girl's expression. It just doesn't fit well I guess.
