Anna Strong—kick-ass bounty hunter and vampire—has made some enemies in her time. But it’s not just her old foes she should be worried about… Anna’s shape-shifting friend Culebra finally opens up to her about his life before he owned Beso de la Muerte, a bar catering to supernatural clientele. As if summoned by the conversation, Culebra’s past stumbles into his bar in the form of an old buddy cashing in a favor.
Soon Anna, Culebra and her ex, DEA agent Max, find themselves deep in
Mexico, dealing with drug cartel infighting, old vendettas and missing girls. Mexico just may prove to be Anna’s best match yet…
Anna's grown into her abilities and limitations as a vampire and she seems much more comfortable with herself these days. Still, she pushes people away, not wanting them to get to close, afraid they might get hurt...or dead. In this installment, she's all over the place with her love life--a confused vamp is a sad vamp.
But when one of her closest friends, one who knows her dark secrets, needs her help, Anna doesn't hesitate. Culebra has always been a bit of a mystery but we get to know a lot about him and his very shadowy and dark past in this one (I was pretty shocked that he was *that* bad.).
Action abounds in number eight of the Anna Strong Chronicles as Anna, Culebra and Max dash around Mexico saving young girls from evil, evil men and generally kicking ass. Very satisfying, the ass-kicking those bad dudes so richly deserve and earn. Karma, she's a bitch and her name is Anna.
