THE UNWANTEDS Blog Tour Stop and Giveaway

I'm thrilled to welcome Lisa McMann and her wonderful new middle grade novel to The Book Swarm. THE UNWANTEDS has everything a reader could possibly want: action, adventure, a dystopic society, magic, wonder, and even a touch of romance! (I'll have a review up soon -- I thoroughly enjoyed this one!)

Every year in Quill, thirteen-year-olds are sorted into categories: the strong, intelligent Wanteds go to university, and the artistic Unwanteds are sent to their deaths.
Thirteen-year-old Alex tries his hardest to be stoic when his fate is announced as Unwanted, even while leaving behind his twin, Aaron, a Wanted. Upon arrival at the destination where he expected to be eliminated, however, Alex discovers a stunning secret—behind the mirage of the “death farm” there is instead a place called Artime.
In Artime, each child is taught to cultivate their creative abilities and learn how to use them magically, weaving spells through paintbrushes and musical instruments. Everything Alex has ever known changes before his eyes, and it’s a wondrous transformation.
But it’s a rare, unique occurrence for twins to be separated between Wanted and Unwanted, and as Alex and Aaron’s bond stretches across their separation, a threat arises for the survival of Artime that will pit brother against brother in an ultimate, magical battle.
Available through Amazon, B&N, Indie Bound, Books-A-Million, Powell's

So, Lisa, any advice for teen writers?

Contest: ARE YOU UNWANTED?
Personally, I'd be designated an "Unwanted" so fast, my head would spin. Maybe they'd kick me out of Quill because I labeled my papers "Mary the Great" in second grade. Or maybe they'd kick me out because of my coloring attacks, when I'd get home from school and have to spend an hour just coloring pictures. I wouldn't even make it to thirteen. It'd be bye-bye Mary as soon as I picked up my first instrument. What about you? Are you a rule-following Wanted or a rule-breaking Unwanted?
Contest Info: Are you Unwanted?  Gather entries to be entered to win the grand prize book club class pack (up to 20 books!) by explaining which camp you’d be in:

  6. I would most definitely be an Unwanted:) I work in an artistic field, so they would have booted me out of Quill already! So excited to read this one, I don't read a lot of MG but I can't wait to get my hands on this book!

  7. I AM UNWANTED! And I love MG books. Don't get enough of them sent my way, but I'd like to read this one. I like that the artistic ones aren't killed. Thank goodness. I couldn't stand that!

  11. I was coming from football practice,(i was only 5 years old so this is not funny) I was with my family and i saw one of my friends. I told them that I will be right back. So ran through ran through the bleachers. So I was talking to him and so I told him bye and I ran back to the place where my mom was suppose to be at. THEY WEREN'T THERE? so I ran and looked I have never had been scared like this before. SO I started to cry because almost every one left, and I went to the cops and we look for my mom and dad. Turns out they were at the car. So I came in the car and they told me never to do that ever again. And then we got home and they started to laugh at me!!
