“Many of us primarily read one genre of books, with others sprinkled in. If authors stopped writing that genre, what genre would you start reading? Or would you give up reading completely if you couldn’t read that genre anymore?”
Hum, interesting question! Even though I'm currently obsessed with Urban Fantasy, I don't think I could give up reading just because that genre disappeared. Plus, I tend to be a genre-hopper. My past obsessions include romance (ooh, the trashier, the better), historical romance (yes, I consider that to be a different genre!), cozy mysteries, detective/crime/medical novels (like Kathy Reichs or Patricia Cornwell), and SciFi.
I think I'd head for contemporaries -- possibly adventure and/or mystery -- if my urban fantasies disappeared completely.

ReplyDeleteI pretty much read all genres, to be honest, I just review one. I think I'd stick to sci-fi in and of itself if I had to though :)

At the moment I'm mostly reading YA novels, so if that would disappear, I'd start reading more chick lit novels again.

Urban Fantasy is a good genre...and a huge one right now! I couldn't imagine it ever disappearing.

ReplyDeleteI have always stuck with YA but I have been fond of chick lit lately. And a lot of mysteries have sounded quite intriguing to me lately as well.

We read a lot of the same genres. And I agree--romance and historical romance are totes different genres :) Here's my hop, if you want to stop by.
ReplyDeleteNew Follower here, visiting from Crazy for Books... My preferred genre is YA too and if they stopped publishing it i probably wouldn't stop reading, but i would read a lot less and write a lot more, even if it was just for myself. I'm admin over at peaceloveyalit.blogspot.com. I'd love for you to come visit when you get a chance!
